To our students,
The Diversity and Inclusion Centers firmly believe in the well-being and dignity of all people. Social justice is important to all of us, and thus we stand with all immigrants and refugees seeking solace in this country. We wish to offer support to all campus community members affected by the immigration policy put in place by the new President’s Executive Order. We understand that this policy adversely impacts our Muslim community and all people from the targeted countries listed in the travel ban. This Executive Order has put the wellbeing and safety of our nation and communities more broadly in jeopardy. Many people are already being affected by this new policy and are at a heightened risk of violence and discrimination.
We understand the impact that this immigration ban is having on many individuals, and we cannot begin to comprehend the emotions felt. We assure you that the University administration is in conversation about the effects this policy has on our campus community, as well as how to best support those affected. Although we cannot change what has happened, we want you to know that each of our centers is open to anyone and all who wish to meet with us to hold space for your feelings, thoughts, and fears. We want to support you in whatever ways we can. Please find our contact information below, and do not hesitate to reach out to us. You belong here! You are welcomed here!
We also encourage you to seek support from the Dean for Diversity and Inclusion LaTanya Buck, Muslim Life Coordinator Imam Sohaib Sultan, the Davis International Center and the counselors and staff in Counseling and Psychological Services.
